competition support for the new institute of geographie in Münster / Germany

The building itself is designed like a small city with courtyards, small offices and bigger spaces along streets or paths. The facade is made out of energy storing brick walls with an internal layer of PCM. The outer skin is made out of basalt fabric, that encloses the whole building complex. The skin provides an effective sunscreen and buffers the wind forces, but still is transparent from inside out. During the night the effect of a massive block turns into a light building were the open spaces and rooms will be visible from the street.
